...Well, they're here, and so is beautiful sunny weather, perfect for working out in the gardens!
We here at VegetablePatch have been busy tilling, weeding, tilling, weeding, and tilling... and some planting here and there.
Hard work is rewarding - the rewards of the garden in spring are gently subtle. The peas are sending their tendrils on trellis quests, and more plants than I can think of are poking their leaves out into the world to greet the rain and sun.
The garden at Trinity Church is looking wonderful - thanks to all our volunteers who came out to help, even on days when it was cold, rainy and miserable. All our hard work paid off and it is tilled and ready to be planted! We're calling it the 'Church Farm'; it is so big!
The Church Farm may be ready to plant, but there's always work to be done in gardening season. To this end, we are looking for volunteers, especially in the next few weeks - we've got seeds that are just itching to get in the ground! If you are interested in helping us out, just email greenbean@vegetablepatch.ca. We'll let you know where we'll be and when.
If you would like to volunteer on a regular basis, we're also looking for regular, "core" volunteers. Just mention this in your email to us so we can send you a weekly planting schedule.
If you'd like to help out VegetablePatch in other ways, we are also accepting donations of supplies - especially tools like shovels.
In other news, VegetablePatch now has a market stand! We will be selling veggies on Saturdays at the end of June. Our stand will be located in the parking lot of Boomerang Kids in Old Ottawa South, just over the bridge from Landsdowne Park.
We're still looking for people interested in weekly or bi-weekly veggie baskets. Nothing better than locally grown, delicious veggies!
If you've made it through this whole newsletter, give yourself a pat on the back ... or a yummy salad.
See you in the gardens,
Emily and the VegetablePatch team
