VegetablePatch.ca was designed as a model to promote smart sustainable living and productive sharing within a metropolitan environment. Be it space in your front yard, back yard, side yard or vacant lot, its land all the same and land upon which a garden may be grown. Thus it all essentially starts with you agreeing to share your extra land space with us. We are primarily interested in sunny plots larger than 93sq.m or 1000sq.ft.
We are currently looking for ideal spaces around the Alta Vista/Pleasant Park area
...
The following is VegetablePatch's guiding cooperative structure:
- A veggie loving and environmentally conscious Ottawatonian (like yourself) agrees to share their extra yard space.
- We create a garden plot in the agreed upon space. If need be we'll start by first replacing and enriching the existing soil.
You agree not to use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides in the surrounding area so as not to potentially disrupt the organic nature of the garden. - We plant a variety of vegetation in the newly created garden. The goal being a mutually beneficial environment in which all the vegetables can thrive. We'll use completely organic techniques to achieve this goal. Aesthetically, this also makes for a full and diverse looking garden.
- Throughout the growing season we take care of the daily maintenance work in the garden by weeding, watering, building supportive structures, etc.
You get to enjoy the natural beauty thriving in your space and share your experience with others. - When vegetables ripen, we'll harvest them and sell them locally in Ottawa through our vegetable basket delivery service. That is the business part of it all.
You receive baskets containing fresh organic vegetables grown in your own yard and from others elsewhere in the city. This will continue for the entire harvesting season and will vary as different vegetables become available. Fun!
Its as simple as one, two, three, four, five!!
We are currently seeking garden spaces for the 2011 season. If you have land space to share then please enter your contact information below.
